Lowe's TLC's All-American Muslim may have premiered in October, but the show is buzzing with TVGuide.com readers now more than ever, after home-improvement chain Lowe's decided to pull their commercials from the series. After an outpouring of comments, tweets, and Facebook posts, the show is officially No. 1 in our Social Power Rankings, but not because you all agree on the subject."Lowe's, just like any other business, has the right to advertise where they see fit. Facebook user Michelle Knoetgen Taylor takes a more zen-like stance on the matter. "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."What do you think? Here's what else has you talking: our exclusive interview with Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre, in which he reveals, for the first time, that he offered to quit the show to resolve the Charlie Sheen drama.Check back anytime to see the latest Social Power Rankings, which are updated in real time throughout the week.

Exclusive: Dreams Of A Life Clip

Glimpse at Carol Morley's docudramaIt may not sound like the most Christmasy of tales, but there's something so profoundly moving about Dreams Of A Life that we had to share a clip from the docudrama/drama-documentary with you this frosty e'en.Carol Morley's film played to rapt audiences at the LondonFilm Festival earlier in the year and it's continuing to build buzz. It tells the story of Joyce Vincent, a vivacious wannabe singer who died in her bedsit in North London in 2003. Tragic but not unusual, you might think, except for the fact that no-one noticed. For three years.Morley's film seeks the get to the bottom of the story, mixing reconstructions of Vincent's life and talking-head interviews with her nearest and dearest. Well, relatively nearest and dearest.Popping up in this clip are her ex-boyfriend Martin Lister and Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, who also tried to get to the bottom of the story only to be rebuffed by everyone from the police to the utilities companies who continued to supply Joyce's flat during that time. {Dreams Of A Life Poster}Playing Vincent is Zawe Ashton, aka the awesomely foul-mouthed Vod in Fresh Meat. Catch her heralded performance when Dreams Of A Life comes out on December 16.

Tyldum Asks What Happened To Monday?

Hollywood debut for Headhunters directorThe first day of the working week looks set to take something of a kicking in the cinema of the near future. We learned not long ago that producer Daniel Grodnik was heading for a Bad Monday, and now here comes Whatever Happened To Monday?, the English-language debut of Norwegian director Morten Tyldum.Tyldum broke box office records in his homeland this year, with his adaptation of the Jo Nesbo crime thriller Headhunters. It's Norway's most successful film of all time - before it's even played internationally - so it's no surprise that Hollywood should have picked up the phone.Whatever Happened To Monday? is a high-concept dystopian yarn about septuplet brothers on the run and trying to stay below the radar, in an overpopulated society where having more than one child is illegal. You'd think there might be some sort of legal clause which would make exception for acts of nature like multiple conceptions in a single pregnancy, but we're guessing the government in question likes to rigidly enforce its draconian laws. Zero tolerance! No excuses! We're also going to infer that the brothers are named after the days of the week. Hence, something bad happens to Monday, starting the plot engine. According to the Mother Goose rhyme, it'll be Wednesday that's most upset about this. The screenplay, deemed hot enough to make the Black List, is by Max Botkin, who previously wrote the Pauly Shore vehicle Opposite Day, and the RoboSapien movie that's currently in post-production. Raffaella De Laurentiis is producing, through her Raffaella Productions.Headhunters gets a UK release next April.

2011 Holiday Movie Season: The Biggest in History?

The holiday season is a Hollywood hotspot for big movies. With the Oscars right around the corner and people taking extended vacations, the month of December has become a breeding ground for studios looking to highlight their best films of the year, but this winter is shaping up to be one of the most crowded seasons in recent memory. In today's NY Times, writer Michael Cieply looks at the upcoming slate of projects over the next two months. His conclusion? There are a lot of movies coming out! As Cieply points out, there were four major studio releases on or around Christmas Day in 2010, and three in 2009. This year, six major movies will come out "with a total production and marketing cost approaching $1 billion, from directors who have 25 past Oscar nominations among them." This list includes 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,' 'Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol,' 'The Adventures of Tintin,' 'War Horse,' 'We Bought a Zoo' and 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.' In addition, Meryl Streep's 'The Iron Lady' will be released on December 30. The end of this month will see the premiere of even more highly anticipated movies: 'The Artist,' My Week With Marilyn,' 'The Muppets' and 'Hugo' to name a few. Will the crowded slate of movies be too much for audiences to handle? With the number of films coming out, you would have to assume at least a few big budget projects will stumble. Either that, or the holiday season will break Hollywood out of its two-month long box office malaise. If you're still confused at what to see, our Holiday Movie Preview below may help out. Queen of the Mist

Andrew Samonsky manages Mary Testa when she becomes a celebrity after plunging over Niagara Falls in a barrel in Queen of the Mist. A Transport Group in association with Sarah Ackerman, Sase Sham, Benjamin D. Goldberg and Jennifer Orr presentation of a musical in two acts with book, music and lyrics by John Michael LaChiusa. Directed by Jack Cummings III; choreographed by Scott Rink. Music direction, Chris Fenwick.Anna "Annie" Edson Taylor - Mary Testa Frank Russell - Andrew Samonsky Jane, et al. - Theresa McCarthy Man With His Hand Wrapped in Handkerchief, et al. - Tally Sessions Carrie Nation, et al. - Jule Murney Mike Taylor, et al. - Stanley Bahorek A New Manager, et al. - DC AndersonAnna Edson Taylor, a struggling 63-year-old schoolteacher, threw caution to the wind in 1901, plunged over Niagara Falls in a barrel and lived to tell about it. Instant celebrity resulted, but she just as quickly plunged into obscurity. Until now, that is, as prolific musical maker Michael John LaChiusa has taken up Taylor's cause with "Queen of the Mist." An unusual story, a provocative score and inventive staging by Jack Cummings III combine to make this an intriguing offering from the Transport Group, buoyed by Mary Testa as the stubbornly contrary Anna. Testa has made a name for herself over the past 30 years working frequently with LaChiusa and William Finn while also attracting attention (and Tony nominations) in mainstream revivals of "On the Town" and "42nd Street." Testa's oversized talent and ferocious intensity, however, have at times overpowered her playmates. LaChiusa has written to her strengths; those wild comedic powers are all in view, but tempered by the dramatic requirements of the role. Testa shows how wide her range is in the final scenes. The leading lady -- given star billing on the houseboards, though not in the program -- is ably supported by a cast of six. Andrew Samonsky does a fine job as Frank Russell, Taylor's manager. Samonsky, who was a replacement Lt. Cable in the recent "South Pacific" (and played the role on the PBS broadcast), has a strong voice and holds his own against Testa. The others play multiple roles, acquitting themselves well in one or two featured spots. Theresa McCarthy, who spends most of the evening as Anna's respectable sister, stands out in her overbroad second act scene as a foul-mouthed and very funny pretender in a blonde wig. LaChiusa ("Marie Christine," "The Wild Party") has developed a reputation for shows that are more esoteric than involving. "Queen of the Mist" breaks the pattern: Here is an earthy, tabloid story of emancipation and celebrity with plenty of humor. Tale seems to spring from the author's roots in upstate Chautauqua, N.Y.; Taylor aspired to recognition by the Chautauqua Institution, the 19th century cultural citadel. Score is not only intelligent but more tuneful than recent LaChiusa efforts. Michael Starobin provides a strong orchestration for six pieces, including an effective French horn. Director Cummings' Transport Group, which delights in non-traditional playing spaces, returns to the Gym at Judson Memorial Church on Washington Square, scene of their June triumph "Lysistrata Jones." Stage is configured as a rectangle with bleachers on the two long sides, allowing Cummings and choreographer Scott Rink to stage the action effectively in tennis court fashion. The problem with many one-shot celebrities in our culture is that there is sometimes no second act. That is a bit of a problem here; after Taylor shoots the falls, there's relatively little left to happen in the less-involving and overlong second act. Fortunately, this is alleviated by some high-powered turns (like McCarthy's) and a strong finish. LaChiusa's musings on fame and celebrity have resonance, and not only with respect to the long-forgotten Taylor. The author also introduces us to a deranged anarchist at the 1901 Buffalo Exposition, who immediately after his (presumably fictional) exchange with Taylor goes off and shoots the President. The assassin was front page news until his execution, and then faded from memory. Nowadays, the once notorious Leon Czolgosz is known solely as a character in another modern musical, "Assassins" -- so much so that he gets a gasp of recognition from the audience some 110 years after his one, mad act.Sets, Sandra Goldmark; costumes, Kathryn Rohe; lights, R. Lee Kennedy; sound, Walter Trarbach; orchestrations, Michael Starobin; production stage manager, Wendy Patten. Opened Nov. 6, 2011. Reviewed Nov. 3. Runs through Nov. 20. Brian Cox Joins Dog Fight

As Zach Galifianakis' dadRise Of The Planet Of The Apes saw Brian Cox being mean to furry creatures for dramatic purposes, so we doubt he'll have much trouble being distant towards the equally hairy Zach Galifianakis in Dog Fight.According to Variety, Cox is in talks to join the comedy, which finds Galifianakis and Will Ferrell slugging it out as rival politicians looking to win a small North Carolina congressional seat.Cox's role will be Galifianakis' dad, a former senator who has always been highly critical of his son, joining a cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker and Katherine LaNasa. With a script from The Other Guys' Chris Henchy and Eastbound & Down's Shawn Harwell, Jay Roach is set to start directing the movie this month in New Orleans. Given the big presidential election coming up next year in the US, it should be a timely film. But hopefully, mostly just funny.Cox has largely been acting in dramas and thrillers recently (though Red had some humour running though it). He'll next tackle horror thriller The Home and will be seen as Matt Busby in Theatre Of Dreams.

Avatar Will Invade Disney Theme Parks

James Cameron's on boardGiven how much money it made and how popular it has become, we're frankly a little astonished that it took this long for someone to pitch James Cameron on the idea of creating an Avatar-based theme park attraction. But now the Walt Disney Company has secured a deal to open an Avatar Land at the Animal Kingdom park it runs as part of the Disney World Resort in Florida. Disney boss Bob Iger made the announcement at a press conference with Cameron and Fox chiefs Jim Gianopulos and Thomas Rothman in attendance. The idea is to create fully realised themed sections based around Pandora as seen in the film. And with construction set to start in 2013, the finished product will draw not only from the original, but also from Cameron's planned sequels, including what he refers to as "biomes", or the various parts of the planet. Avatar was meant to celebrate our interaction with nature and nature's wonder and diversity, Cameron said at the conference. Putting our Avatar themed land into Animal Kingdom is extremely exciting. "While Cameron will naturally have plenty of input into the design and working practices of the parks, he's obviously going to be a bit busy getting the next two films made. But it appears he has full confidence in the Disney team. "I quickly realized that their vision for this thing was far beyond what I'd imagined - and I've got a pretty good imagination. We're just hoping he stops short of endorsing the Titanic line of cruise ships. Because that really can't end well for anyone.

Jane Fonda Biographer Patricia Bosworth on the Actress, Her Movies, and the Horny Prowess of Henry Fonda

At age 74, Jane Fonda still beams with a dogged courage that has fueled her cinematic, political, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Biographer Patricia Bosworth would know firsthand, having met the two-time Oscar winner during their thespian days with Lee Strasberg in New York City’s Actors Studio. For four decades Bosworth has studied the shapeshifting Fonda, and when it came time in the early 2000s to write her biography, Fonda agreed to interview with the woman who had, by that time, written tomes about Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando. Fonda released her autobiography My Life So Far first in 2005, but now, just as she publishes her second book Prime Time, Bosworth can finally issue her take on her onetime colleague, the comprehensive and undeniably fair Jane Fonda: The Private Life of a Private Woman. Movieline phoned Bosworth to discuss Fonda’s legacy, the virile man behind Henry Fonda’s stony reputation, and the greatest (and most interesting) film moments in Jane’s career. You’ve written biographies of two relatively tragic figures — Montgomery Clift and Diane Arbus — and Marlon Brando. How does Jane Fonda fit into that list, and why was she the next logical choice? More than any of the other characters - and though they’re marvelous, eccentric, one-of-a-kind characters - Jane tops the list. I really did want to write a cultural history of her life, because she sort of transforms the decades as she recreates herself from movie star to political activist to exercise guru. They fit really neatly into those decades, the ’60s, the ’70s, and ’80s. Those are three iconographic figures, though there’s the tycoon wife of Ted Turner, the philanthropist, etc. But there’s three major characters or images that she projected onto the public and that she really was. She really was a movie star activist and the exercise queen. Fonda has said that her other biographers, all men, have had something against her. Do you agree? Oh, I do! I don’t think any of them took her seriously. They made fun of her. They diminished her in a way, in ways that I did not. Number one, she shouldn’t be diminished. She’s a very important figure both in feminism and in politics. Because she was a woman, they were really threatened by her. During your days as an actress, you attended the Actors Studio with Fonda and learned under Lee Strasberg. How much of the vivid, multifaceted person you write about was apparent in that class? Or was it? Oh, no. When she was in the Actors Studio, she was scared. She was vulnerable, but hidden. She didn’t talk very much. I mean, she’s changed an enormous amount. In the Strasberg classes, she was scared and didn’t know whether she could do it. She was afraid. She was afraid of competing with her father. There were all sorts of things at play at that point. I think she was still suffering deeply from the effects of her mother’s suicide. It was a really rough period for her. Not only did her mother, the socialite Frances Ford Seymour Brokaw, commit suicide, but the aloofness of her legendary father is well-documented, especially by Jane herself. What have you gathered on Henry Fonda from secondary sources? Does it differ from Jane’s point of view? It’s interesting. I’ve met very few people who could ever reach him, connect with him. He was extremely detached and cold. Of course his last wife Shirley Fonda, who I talked to, adored him and thought he was given a bad rap. She thought he was kind and good, and the interesting thing is, speaking of his kindness, his granddaughter Vanessa (Jane’s daughter) talked to me a lot about her grandfather. She adored him. She said he was wonderful to her, kind, nice, and taught her how to garden. Vanessa said she never saw what Jane saw; she saw only a gentle, loving side of Henry Fonda. He was wonderful with kids and not so good with adults. I think he adored Jane, which was very evident in his actions, but he’d never say it. I think he absolutely adored her. What where you surprised to learn about him? For instance, I never would’ve known that Henry Fonda was a womanizer. Can I say that he always had a hard-on? I mean, seriously. I don’t know how much you’re going to use of this! I was surprised to hear him described as a very sexual being, and I subsequently found out that he had many affairs with women including Barbara Stanwyck. He was irresistible to women! One critic of your book claimed that you see what Jane Fonda doesn’t see in herself, and as I read the book, I tended to agree. What do you think those qualities are? I’m not sure that she sees — and this is not meant to be a criticism — but she’s so impulsive, she’s too impulsive, she makes the wrong decisions. She surrounds herself often with people who are mediocrities rather than always being with her peers in business and career situations. That’s what I’ve seen. Other people have commented on her. I don’t want to be critical of her because I really care about her, but I wish she wouldn’t do quite so much! She seems to be almost more energized as she gets older, and she’s almost manic and so driven now. I wish she could relax! I don’t think she sees that about herself. In your opinion, what’s her best performance? I think her greatest performance is certainly Bree Daniels, the call girl in Klute. I think she tapped so many incredible resources inside herself, and play within that role — the call girl, the little girl, the tough cookie, the woman who put on a show for everybody, the vulnerable woman - that was a part of Jane. She’s also starred in a number of forgotten films. What’s her most underrated performance? For me the most underrated is, I think, The Morning After where she played the alcoholic, the drunk, the has-been movie star. Of course she was going through her own hell with her husband, trying to get Tom Hayden into rehab. He was an alcoholic. She was going through all that at that moment, and I think she understood the role very well — that of an alcoholic. What characters is she best at playing, generally? Are they the ones who are most like her? She’s best at playing these driven, ambitious, tortured characters. The marathon dancer in They Shoot Horses, Don’t They, and even in The China Syndrome as the reporter — well, she doesn’t become ruthless — but she wanted that story! And in movies like Nine to Five and Coming Home, you could chart her political evolution too. She wanted her political opinions expressed. In Coming Home, it’s about Vietnam and the veterans’ plight, and in Nine to Five, it was about secretaries getting rights. It was her politics. Finally, what’s been her biggest stretch as an actor? Any role that would shock first-time viewers? I think there are always elements of herself, but she did a movie with George Segal called Fun with Dick and Jane. Wow, that’s a good movie. Don’t see the remake with Jim Carrey.

Eventually

Eventually represents the ups and lower of the relationship between Anne Hathaways and Jim Sturgess figures during the period of two decades. An Emphasis Features (in U.S.) release given Random House Films in colaboration with Film4 of the Color Pressure production in colaboration with Twins Financing. Created by Nina Jacobson. Executive producer, Tessa Ross. Co-producer, Jane Frazer. Directed by Lone Scherfig. Script, David Nicholls, according to his book.Emma - Hathaway As Catwoman Dexter - Jim Sturgess Alison - Patricia Clarkson Steven - Ken Stott Sylvie - Romola Garai Ian - Rafe SpallThough moored by its appealing leads and directed by Lone Scherfig with customary snap and polish, "EventuallyInch rather too dutifully stories the 20-year relationship between two wise, attractive Britons, planning the incremental changes from flirtation and friendship to hard-won commitment. On the moment-by-moment basis, Hathaway As Catwoman and Jim Sturgess get this to lengthy-arc love story viable, often even vital. However the structural conceit proves more reductive than expansive, the large picture too overdetermined to actually sweep the viewer away. It'll prosper in ancillary eventually, but theatrically, Focus will depend on Hathaway to conquer a modest arthouse niche. Indeed, the actress appears to possess been selected more on her Stateside commercial appeal than her natural affinity for that role while she found innocent herself well within the British costume drama "Becoming Jane" (2007), Hathaway in the beginning feels slightly miscast because Emma Morley, whose Yorkshire background has a particularly tricky accent to understand. However the thesp's quick intelligence and inner spark assert themselves very quickly, making the bookish Emma a shrewd foil for Dexter Mayhew (Sturgess), the rakish charmer with whom she stays a chaste but intimate evening in her own U. of Edinburgh flat. That fateful one-evening quasi-stand happens This summer 15, 1988. The following scene is placed on This summer 15, 1989, as Dexter helps Emma transfer to her new London digs, their easy banter which makes it obvious they have become close friends. Annually along with a scene later, Emma is toiling away aimlessly in a Mexican restaurant while Dexter likes a far more glamorous summer time in Paris together with his mother (Patricia Clarkson). This summer 15, 1992, finds the duo travelling about the Brittany coast, with Emma drawing strict limitations that Dexter is too prepared to violate, as becomes obvious inside a skinny-sinking episode that comically backfires. So the film goes, missing dexterously, as they say, in one year to another until present, its story coalescing in scraps of narrative and slivers of feeling. While Emma struggles to create something of her writerly ambitions, Dexter turns into a famous TV personality, his boozy celebrity lifestyle driving a wedge between him and the family members. He navigates a never-ending number of female friends, eventually getting married to and getting a young child with upper-class Sylvie (Romola Garai), while Emma attempts to settle lower with Ian (Rafe Spall), a great guy she does not love. For the many good and the bad they have to endure before (and after) their miracle moment, Dex and Em are clearly destined for each other. To place it one other way, they're captives of the rigid chronological schema devised by film writer David Nicholls, somewhat too faithfully adapting his by divine intention popular 2009 novel. The book's more contrived developments -- the parallels and contrasts attracted between your two at various existence stages, the recurring dramatic significance of This summer 15 -- were given conviction through the author's lively, intelligent prose, his capability to complete each snapshot with mental detail and background texture. Nicholls' script pretty much distills the essence of every chapter in a number of tight, reasonably well-formed moments, but an important component of depth and spontaneity is missing. Time, among the story's key subjects, works out to not be about the film's side. This places a substantial burden about the lead stars to state Dexter and Emma's wealthy interior existence in addition to their essential rightness for each other, that they accomplish with aplomb. Sporting a what-me-worry grin that informs only half the storyline, Sturgess nails his portrait of the irresponsible party animal whose fifteen minutes of fame leave him in serious necessity of redemption and detox. If Hathaway appears a less apparent fit for Emma, the truth that she's playing the greater pleasant, reliable character within the equation rapidly will get the viewer on her behalf side. Like Hathaway, Clarkson projects this type of familiar lower-home American attitude that certain initially has trouble purchasing her like a Brit, though her performance comprises in emotional truth what it really may don't have any linguistic precision. Supporting cast is great throughout Ken Stott discloses shades of tenderness beneath a gruff exterior as Dexter's father, while Garai and Spall deliver supportive, perfectly judged turns because the other girl and guy, correspondingly. Scherfig's follow-as much as her '60s-set "InstructionInch finds her again incisively going through the London of history, although balance newer past. Benoit Delhomme's fine widescreen lensing captures a town of cramped living quarters, crummy local dives and pulsing nightclubs, favoring more appealing, postcard-like sights of Paris and Edinburgh in key sequences. Rachel Portman's treacly score aside, the soundtrack is a little too fastidious in piling about the 1990's hits an identical attentiveness governs Odile Dicks-Mireaux's costume options, right lower towards the "Chinese-style affair of wealthy blue silk" Nicholls describes Emma as putting on to some friend's wedding.
